Energize Your Faculty

I have recently returned from working overseas with a group of international education leaders. Part of this consultancy brief was to assist the leadership group to plan out a professional development Community of Practice for their faculty. The planning process was focused upon the leadership group taking on the role of coordinating the future professional development program into 2020 and beyond. The planning process was of significance as it demonstrated the success to be had once a professional Community of Practice reaches maturity. In this business meeting we collectively positioned the organisation to commence ‘closing the professional development circle’ of training and assessment ongoing professional development.

Allow me to explain. The maturity of the professional development Community of Practice is a culmination of multiple stakeholder efforts over two years. Initially, during 2017 I was asked to undertake a review of the organisations teaching and assessment practices. From the review we developed a professional development Community of Practice network as part of a broader strategic plan to accelerate the capacity development of their faculty. The benefits during this time have been tangible for all to see.
